    Vagharshak Torosyan

Greg Drinkwine Studio is honored to present Torosyan as an invited artist within its curatorial publishing program. Torosyan's work occupies a rare space between psychological introspection and symbolic narrative, where figuration and abstraction become vehicles for exploring memory, identity, and the human condition.

Born in Leninakan (Gyumri) in 1964 and trained in both fine arts and architecture in Yerevan-later devoting himself fully to painting in Moscow before returning to live and work in Yerevan-Torosyan (who signs his works ‘TOROS’) has developed a singular abstract and abstract-figurative language in which structure and emotion are inseparable. His canvases operate as psychological environments: figures emerge not through description but through rhythm, contour, and sculptural color, hovering between the recognizable and the invented. At once formally exacting and emotionally charged, Torosyan's work invites sustained looking-where ambiguity sharpens into conviction, and abstraction becomes a vehicle for human presence, moral pressure, and quiet, unsettling tenderness. Working across decades, Torosyan has developed a visual language that resists easy categorization. Each composition emerges through a process of sustained reflection, layering, and revision, resulting in images that invite prolonged engagement.

This presentation introduces a selection of works drawn from the artist's studio archive, accompanied by authorized archival editions published in collaboration with the artist and the collector.
