In Carnival, Torosyan constructs a vibrant composition that captures the sensory intensity of collective celebration. The painting abandons the traditional structure of portrait or landscape in favor of an immersive field of interlocking forms. Shapes reminiscent of musical instruments—trumpets, horns, percussion elements—emerge and overlap within a dynamic network of color, creating the impression of sound translated into visual language.

Although the composition is densely constructed, the painting maintains a careful balance between order and spontaneity. The repeated curves and diagonals guide the viewer’s eye through the image, creating a rhythmic flow that mirrors the musical associations embedded in the forms. The painting thus operates simultaneously as abstraction and narrative atmosphere.

Within Torosyan’s broader body of work, Carnival reflects the artist’s fascination with collective experience and symbolic transformation. Carnival traditions historically represent moments when ordinary structures are temporarily suspended, allowing imagination and spectacle to reshape social space. Torosyan translates this cultural phenomenon into a purely visual language, where the boundaries between object, sound, and movement dissolve into a vibrant orchestration of forms.
