The Gilded Grille 1906 frame establishes the foundation of the collection, both historically and conceptually. It gathers many of the qualities that first drew us to Stanford White: architectural order, clarity of interval, and an ornamental vocabulary capable of richness without excess. Its openwork structure introduces an unusual lightness, allowing shadow and void to participate in the composition alongside the gilded surface. What held our attention was the frame’s disciplined and permeable order, carried through a structure that remains both precise and open.

In our carved edition, that order becomes more fully articulated. The pierced passages are resolved in wood with close attention to spacing, projection, and continuity, so that each opening retains both grace and structural integrity. What appears effortless in the finished work depends upon exact control across the entire network. The frame retains the refinement of its historical origin while taking on a more defined structural presence and a heightened responsiveness to light across its gilded surface.
